The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
Dholka seat in Ahmedabad district has been one of the most discussed seats in this election. From here, instead of Bhupendra Chudasama, who was a minister in the Vijay Rupani cabinet, Kirit Singh Dabhi was nominated this time. Dabhi defeated Ashwinbhai Rathod by 13,405 votes in this election.
This seat came into existence in 1962. The last election here was won by former Gujarat’s Bhupendra Singh Chudasama. In the 15 elections held so far, both the BJP and the Congress have dominated this seat. Interestingly, the Gujarat High Court had quashed the election of Education Minister Chudasama in the then Rupani government. However, the Supreme Court later stayed the High Court’s decision.

BJP’s Bhupendra Chudasama won from this seat in the 2012 assembly elections. He defeated Pradumna Singh Chavda of Congress by a margin of more than 17 thousand. A total of 9 candidates were in the fray in that election. Except for the candidates of BJP and Congress, the deposits of the remaining 7 candidates were forfeited.
For the first time in 1991, Chudasama got the post of minister. He was made the Agriculture Minister in the Government of Gujarat. He took charge of different ministries in the Government of Gujarat four times.
won by a narrow margin in 2017
In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP had made Chudasama its candidate from this seat. He defeated Ashwin Rathod of INC by only 327 votes. A total of 13 candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the remaining 11 candidates were forfeited. Chudasama, a senior BJP leader who has contested nine times, is not a candidate in this election. This time BJP has declared Kirit Singh Dabhi as its candidate. Veteran BJP leader Chudasama had won the 2017 elections by a margin of just 327 votes. Whereas here NOTA got 2347 votes. Polling was held on this seat in the second phase on December 5. The results came on 8 December.
