The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. This seat came into existence in 1962. The last election here was won by former Gujarat’s Bhupendra Singh Chudasama. In the 15 elections held so far, both the BJP and the Congress have dominated this seat. Interestingly, the Gujarat High Court had quashed the election of Education Minister Chudasama in the then Rupani government. However, the Supreme Court later stayed the High Court’s decision.

For the first time in 1991, Chudasama got the post of minister. He was made the Agriculture Minister in the Government of Gujarat. He took charge of different ministries in the Government of Gujarat four times.

Polling was held on this seat in the second phase on December 5. The results came on 8 December.
